TARUMT, a cutting-edge student center, is dedicated to offering top-notch facilities while championing sustainability. By incorporating green features like high-quality glazing, optimizing passive design principles, and implementing water-efficient fittings throughout the building, TARUMT ensures a comfortable and environmentally responsible environment for its users.

This ambitious project sets a high standard in sustainability, aiming to achieve dual green building certifications in the non-residential category. TARUMT is targeting both the prestigious GBI Gold rating and the esteemed GreenRE Platinum rating, underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship and energy efficiency.

Key features include:

Energy efficiency

  • Low thermal transfer value with performance materials
  • Energy Management System (EMS) to monitor energy and water consumption
  • 86% of lighting power consumption improvement from MS1525 baseline
  • Natural ventilation – carpark, corridor and atriums
  • Energy efficient vertical transportation
  • Proposed solar PV system – 344 kWp capacity to generate approximately 426 MWh/year
  • Low Building Energy Intensity (BEI)

Water efficiency

  • 52% potable water reduction
  • 50% of water fittings are of 3 Stars Water Efficient Product Labelling Scheme (WEPLS) 
  • 98% water savings to irrigate landscape

Sustainable construction

  • 25% of Ordinary portland Cement (OPC) replaced by recycled materials
  • Low Concrete Usage Index (CUI)
  • Use of sustainable products for occupants’ wellbeing

Indoor environmental quality

  • Filtration system to ensure good air quality
  • 61% of spaces have external view out to reduce eye strain for students while tasking

Innovation

  • Use of siphonic rainwater discharge to increase efficiency

Materials & resources

  • 44% construction recycled content materials 
  • Reusable formwork to reduce construction waste up to 10%
  • 69% construction materials are from Malaysia
