Using WELL in the Fight Against Viruses

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused much distress around the world. International Well Building Institute (IWBI) is leading the global movement to transform our buildings and communities in ways that help people thrive through the WELL Building Standard. This rating system is focused exclusively on the ways that buildings, and everything in them, can improve our comfort, drive better choices, and generally enhance our health and wellness.

Special features in the WELL building standard will help reduce the risk of spreading infectious diseases and other viruses that may come our way and make positive steps to ensure we have the healthiest possible space. Implementing WELL features enables us at Green Quarter to use buildings as a tool to help advance public health and allows occupants to better protect themselves in indoor environments.

There are relevant key strategies in WELL which covers:

  • FAC Sanitary Facilities Provision

Cleaner air

  • A06 Enhanced Ventilation
  • A07 Operable Windows
  • A11 Source Separation
  • A12 Air Filtration

While implementation of WELL features cannot prevent a pandemic, it can help reduce the risk of spreading infectious disease, both viruses and germs. Detailed information can be found here:
