The 2nd Malaysia University – Industry Green Building Collaboration Symposium (MU-IGBC 2018) was held on the 8th May 2018 in University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). This is the first time the event was held since early 2015. With the central theme “Energising Green Buildings”, the MU-IGBC 2018 aimed to promote the green building industry to the relevant stakeholders and society. Another target of this symposium was to support the green building industry by accommodating the right avenues and platforms for university-industry collaboration to nurture and grow. This would ultimately help create a vibrant and resilient green building industry in Malaysia.
Here at Green Quarter, we too participated in this event with the publishing of a paper co-written by Julian and Rui Fong. The paper was titled “Effects and Usefulness of Evaporative Cooling in Malaysia”.
The paper was based on a case study conducted at a warehouse that was installed with evaporative coolers. The data obtained was analysed against the Malaysian weather data and thermal comfort parameters to identify if evaporative cooling could be a useful and effective solution for Malaysia. We concluded that evaporative cooling systems may be a possible cooling solution in Malaysia for a space that has low heat gains.
